Your competitors can advertise in Google’s AI follow-up answers
A potential customer asks Google’s AI Mode to help them find a website agency. They look at the options, then add: “We’re a restaurant. We need online bookings and the site has to be ready in four weeks.”

That follow-up tells an agency what the customer needs to buy. It is also a moment when another agency could appear through an ad.
Google is introducing ads in follow-up conversations in AI Mode in the U.S. For companies, this creates another opportunity to reach someone who is narrowing their options.
What changed
On 28/10, Google announced the U.S. follow-up ad launch alongside an expansion of AI Mode ads into ten additional countries, including Canada, Australia and India. The U.K. is planned for later in Q4. Switzerland is not included in that announcement.

The restaurant example is hypothetical. It shows why this matters: a customer can explain why the first options do not fit without starting a new search.
For an agency that builds restaurant websites, that is a more useful situation to compete for than a general request for “web design.”
You may already be eligible
Google says eligible Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns can participate automatically. There is no separate AI Mode campaign or budget.
You cannot choose to advertise only in AI Mode. Performance is included in standard campaign reporting.

If you already pay for Google Ads in an eligible market, ask your agency:
- Can our current campaigns appear in AI Mode?
- Which services and landing pages can those ads promote?
- How will we judge whether the inquiries are worth what we pay?
An increase in clicks does not answer the third question. For the website agency, a useful inquiry includes a project it can deliver, a workable budget and a realistic deadline.
Give the customer enough information to choose you
In our example, the customer has three requirements: restaurant experience, online bookings and a four-week deadline.
Sending them to a homepage that says “We create exceptional digital experiences” makes them start again.
Our recommendation: send that customer to a page explaining your restaurant website service. Show a relevant project, explain the booking systems you support and state how someone checks your current delivery times. Include a starting price if you can give one.
Those details let the customer decide whether contacting you makes sense. They also help you avoid calls about work you do not offer.
Paying for an ad does not buy an organic recommendation
Google says ads are labeled Sponsored and do not influence its organic AI answers.

Keep that distinction in your reporting. A paid appearance shows that an ad was served. It does not prove that AI independently recommended your company.
Before increasing your budget, check one service you want to sell. Confirm campaign eligibility with your ad manager, review the page customers will reach and track which inquiries become paying customers.
For the website agency, the useful result is a restaurant hiring it for a project it can deliver profitably.
